Workshop Manager_Angola

Aker Solutions Angola (ASA) is established for the purpose of creating value for clients and owners by providing superior customer service to Angolan sector operators within the oil and gas industry.  Superior customer service will be achieved through continual improvement, leadership involvement, demonstration of initiative, proactive anticipation of client demands,  diligent attention to detail, and an effective HSE program designed to identify, report, and prevent unwanted conditions.   ASA shall be a good corporate citizen acting in line with the interests of the Angolan Authorities and the general public.

 

 

Job Description

 

Objectives

Plan, manage, monitor and report on the work carried out by the Workshop Department.

Ensure the efficient management of the engineering workshop, its contracts and staff with a view to increasing productivity and efficiency in full compliance with QHSE regulations.

 

Responsibilities/Activities

       Develop or participate in the development of procedures and check their application.

       Ensure, through the Quality Manager, that the required quality and safety levels are being met when tasks are performed.

       Ensure that the rules of the HSE manual and the technological risk control plan are monitored and applied.

       Ensure team discipline and make sure any HSE and quality rules are applied and updated.

       Organise staff plans and training, work plans and hiring of subcontractors and additional employees when necessary.

       Plan, monitor and report on labour and resources in the Workshop Department.

       Keep the ASA's General Manager and customers informed about the status of work carried out.

       Remain in constant contact with the Operations Manager about offshore activities.

       Schedule technical meetings with suppliers and clients after receiving approval from the President.

       Manage budget and control costs.

       Organise and control invoicing and costs.

       Report on any non-compliance with rules, laws, regulations, procedures and agreements.

       Ensure compliance with routines and reports related to ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) and ISO 9001 (Quality Management).

       Record and monitor incidents, accidents and non-compliances in the department.

 

Deadline Monitoring

       Ensure that technicians are performing their tasks according to the rules and their assigned responsibilities.

       Ensure that work is proceeding without interruption according to established priorities.

       Anticipate possible replacements, whether scheduled or not, of specific machinery and tools.

       Plan activity (materials, resources and persons).

       Take the necessary measures in the event of an emergency.

 

Quality Control

       Receive damaged parts from offshore operations and replace and despatch them immediately.

       Verify and analyse the state of received components in order to prepare the corresponding worksheet.

 

Cost Control

       Prepare Workshop Department budgets.

       Make periodic reports to management and suggest actions to reduce costs and improve systems availability.

       Assess the cost-benefit ratio for equipment repair to justify decisions to repair or purchase equipment.

       Ensure stock levels of components and consumables in the engineering workshop, ensure their proper use and perform logistics monitoring.

       Prepare budgets.

       Control invoicing and monitor invoice payments.

       Increase business through customer contact.

       Participate in the preparation of the company's general budget.

 

QHSE

       Ensure that quality, health, safety and environment (QHSE) policies, their respective procedures and quality plans are implemented in the company. Maintain an active role in identifying opportunities to improve QHSE systems and, where appropriate, assist with the implementation of those improvements at company level.

 

Competences


Qualifications

       University degree (Licenciatura) or higher.

  

Professional Experience and Qualifications

 

General and Multidisciplinary Skills

       Fluent in Portuguese and English.

       User-level IT skills.

 

Specific Skills

         Very good general knowledge of mechanics, electrics, hydraulics and pneumatics.

         Knowledge of industrial metrology.

         Knowledge of ISO standards.

         Specific training in the machinery and tools used in the workplace.

         Experience in the processes and equipments to be used.

         Knowledge and understanding of the facilities and equipments.

         Knowledge of how to read production drawings.

         Knowledge of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Impact of the Job on Results

A direct secondary role. Participates with others (excluding superiors and subordinates) inside and outside the department in the interest of team and/or company results. Results of the work undertaken are clearly reflected in the profitability and image of the company. The impact of the job can therefore be considered "medium-high".

 

Type of Problem-Solving (Degree of Initiative vs. Demand)

The main challenges are related to the high number of operations requiring planning and supervision.

The degree of initiative must be high in order to face possible problems that may arise. The demand is moderate.

 

Scope of Responsibility

Specific guidance. Duties which, due to their nature or scope, are subject to practices and procedures broadly covered by precedents, operational policies and/or the achievement of specific operational results.

This is a largely autonomous position, with occasional supervision. Decisions are made at the respective level of responsibility with the aim of ensuring that team objectives are achieved.

Operational contacts aimed at solving problems affecting team or company results (e.g. sharing technical information), outside the chain of command, thereby contributing to an improvement in results and the organisational environment.

No physical exertion or risk. The job is performed in a relatively comfortable environment.

Operational contacts aimed at solving problems that affect company results (such as the exchange of technical customer-supplier information and monitoring the performance of contracts).

Significant management skills, including understanding of the process, identifying needs, defining goals, planning activities, assigning resources, budget creation, follow-up and control.

 

Leadership Skills

Assume leadership roles for medium-sized teams (or small, highly-qualified teams) to ensure the negotiation and definition of goals, personal development and the resources needed to achieve results successfully.
